Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) will soon begin sea trials of Nuyina, the new large icebreaking research ship which will be operated by UK-based Serco on behalf of the Australian government.

The 160-metre vessel recently completed undergoing construction at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania and is currently being prepared for the trials, which will take place off the coast of Vlissingen in the southwestern Netherlands.

Nuyina is scheduled to be handed over to its new owners in 2021. It will be homeported in the Australian Antarctic Division’s headquarters in Hobart.
