Szczecin, Gdynia maritime offices to get two new research vessels in 2020

Poland’s Remontowa Shipbuilding is scheduled to deliver two diesel-electric powered multi-purpose research vessels to the country’s Maritime Offices in Szczecin and Gdynia in the second and third quarters of 2020.

Each vessel will have a length of 60 metres, a beam of 12.8 metres, a moulded depth of 4.7 metres, and three Cummins QSK50 Tier III-compliant engines.

The vessels will be used primarily in hydrographic research to determine water quality and depth contours but will have secondary functions including icebreaking, firefighting, and servicing aids to navigation. They will replace two older vessels that have been in service with the Szczecin and Gdynia maritime offices for 35 years.
