Seaspan delivers first OFSV to Canadian Coast Guard

Seaspan Shipyards delivered CCGS Sir John Franklin, the first Offshore Fisheries Science Vessel (OFSV), to the Canadian Coast Guard on Thursday, June 27.

The newbuild is the first large vessel to be built and delivered to the Government of Canada under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS).

The 63.4-metre-long Sir John Franklin is equipped with high-tech fishing trawls, laboratories, and a deployable drop keel.

The OFSV will serve as a platform for Fisheries and Oceans Canada scientists to monitor the health of fish stocks, better understand the impacts of climate change, and support oceans research.
