SCDF commissions new firefighting vessel

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) commissioned the new firefighting vessel Red Sailfish into service on Tuesday, August 20.

Built by ST Engineering Marine, the vessel has a length of 50 metres, a maximum speed of 20 knots, a crew of 12 including firefighters, accommodation for 30 passengers, FiFi3 class pump capacity of 240,000 litres per minute with 360-degree coverage, and a launch and recovery system for one rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) for search and rescue (SAR).

Red Sailfish also has a chemical-biological-radiological (CBR) protection system, HAZMAT detection capabilities, and thermal imaging sensors for detecting casualties and heat spots under low-visibility conditions.

The vessel will begin full-time operations next year.
