Robert Allan Ltd launches autonomous firefighting boat series

Robert Allan Ltd has launched a new series of autonomous boats specifically designed for firefighting in ports.

Each vessel in the series will have a length of 16 metres, waterjet propulsion, and a suite of video and thermal cameras.

The firefighting boats can be operated from other vessels of opportunity or from shore-based positions, though each boat will also have an onboard helm station to allow direct manual control. If necessary, control can be switched between multiple operators with different vantage points of an incident.

The vessels may also be used as lifeboats in instances wherein an explosive or toxic environment prevents conventional rescue craft from reaching people in the water.
