A new rescue boat was recently handed over to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in Iowa.

Named The Legacy, the boat was built by AAD Welding and Custom Boats of Peoria, Illinois. It has a length of 26 feet (7.92 metres), a Suzuki 200hp (149kW) outboard engine, seating for up to three people, a sonar, and a small crane for loading and unloading dive gear and other equipment.

The craft will be operated primarily on the stretch of the Mississippi River that passes through the city of Montrose in southern Iowa.

The Legacy was acquired for a cost of US$50,000, which was funded partly by private donors.
