The Philippine Embassy in London has confirmed that five crewmembers of a Taiwan-flagged fishing boat have gone missing after a fire broke out on their vessel in the waters off the Falkland Islands on Monday, February 11.

The five missing individuals, all Filipinos, were among 69 crewmembers embarked on the longliner Jun Rong at the time of the incident.

Philippine Embassy officials are continuing to coordinate with UK authorities regarding the incident but have provided no other details as of the time of writing.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement that it “remains hopeful” that Jun Rong‘s missing crewmembers will be found.
