Canada’s Coastal Nations Coast Guard Auxiliary takes delivery of SAR boat

As part of the Canadian Coast Guard’s Indigenous Community Boat Volunteer Pilot Program, the Ahousaht First Nation of British Columbia has received and launched its new dedicated search and rescue (SAR) boat.

The 8.8-metre vessel will be operated by the Coastal Nations Coast Guard Auxiliary (CN-CGA) off the west coast of Vancouver Island. It is capable of cruising at 32 knots and can sail for up to 400 nautical miles on internal fuel.

The SAR boat was acquired for a cost of CA$214,156 (US$177,214).
