The local fire department of the town of Brookfield, Connecticut, has confirmed that a new rescue boat is slated to enter service this summer.

The seven-metre vessel will be used by the Brookfield Fire Department's Candlewood Company on search and rescue (SAR) and general emergency response duties on Candlewood Lake and Lake Lillinonah.

The rescue boat will have enough space to allow a patient to lie prone on the deck, which fire officials claim will allow emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to effectively provide first aid within minutes of an accident.

The boat will also be equipped with a fire pump for firefighting duties.
