Boat catches fire while rescuing flood victims in south-eastern Pakistan

Pakistani news outlet Samaa reports that a rescue boat caught fire while its crew were evacuating survivors of flooding in Sindh province in the country’s south-east on Tuesday, September 13.

The unnamed vessel was underway near Johi city transporting residents who had become stranded in some outlying communities when the blaze ignited.

The boat’s occupants jumped into the water to avoid being consumed by the flames. All were later picked up by the crew of another vessel.

Ten people suffered minor injuries from the fire, the cause of which remains unknown and is still being investigated.

At the time of the incident, the rescue boat and its crew were assisting in efforts to evacuate residents affected by flooding caused by recent heavy monsoon rains.
