A newbuild 8.5-metre lifeboat has begun operational service with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) station in Lough Derg, County Donegal.

The rigid inflatable boat (RIB) has been named Jean Spier in honour of the late Jean Spier, who, along with her husband Robert, was an active supporter of the RNLI.

The new RIB replaces the 7.38-metre Elsinore, which had been in service with Lough Derg RNLI since November 2015.
