Marine search and rescue (SAR) organisation Coastguard New Zealand recently took delivery of a new boat for operation out of Whangaruru harbour in the Northland region.

Whangaruru Rescue, which has been given the alternate name Tautahi, was originally built by local company Rayglass Boats as a chase boat for the America’s Cup Races.

To make the craft optimised for SAR, Rayglass incorporated a number of modifications. These include a stainless steel framework, flare cameras, loudhailers, flashing lights, radars, and cabinetry for pelican boxes, stretchers, and first aid kits.

The new vessel replaces Coastguard Whangaruru’s 22-year-old boat.
