The Yellowknife Marine Rescue Unit, a sub-unit under the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (CCGA) that operates in the Northwest Territories, recently added a new boat to its fleet.

The rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) custom-built by MetalCraft Marine of Ontario has been named Rescue 797. It measures nine metres long and features an aluminium hull and two 186kW outboard engines that deliver a cruising speed of 30 knots.

The newbuild was purchased using privately donated funds as well as funding support from Fisheries and Oceans Canada through its Indigenous Community Boats Program.
