US Coast Guard responds to diesel spill near Ocean Springs, Mississippi

The US Coast Guard is continuing to respond to a diesel spill that had occurred in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, on Sunday, August 30.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report at approximately 16:30 local time on Sunday that a possibly abandoned and partially sunken yacht in Fort Bayou was leaking diesel fuel.

Two coast guard pollution responders from Sector Mobile are on scene while local company E3 Environmental has been selected to perform cleanup duties.

E3 Environmental placed approximately 30 metres of boom around the vessel to mitigate the spill, which spans approximately 90 metres up and down the bayou. It is unknown how much fuel was on the vessel.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
