SECO cuts steel for pilot boat trio for Tanzania Ports Authority

Kenya-based Southern Engineering Company (SECO) has cut the first steel for three pilot boats in a series ordered by the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA).

The BV-classed vessels were designed by Southerly Designs of Western Australia. Each will have a length of 20 metres, a beam of 5.5 metres, a draught of 1.7 metres, and a maximum speed of 20 knots.

Constructed in steel with an aluminium superstructure, the pilot boats will each have seating for two crew and up to 12 passengers, while accommodation for three crew will be provided below deck.

Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2020.
