Work is currently underway to convert a decommissioned oil spill response vessel (OSRV) into a new pilot station boat for the Sandy Hook Pilots Association of New York.
Maine Responder, an OSRV formerly owned and operated by Washington, DC-based Marine Spill Response Corporation (MSRC), has been acquired to replace the pilot station boat New York, which has been with the Sandy Hook fleet for nearly 50 years.
Modifications to the OSRV will include removal of its oil recovery systems and incorporation of a large deck house containing berths, a lounge, and a mess area.
JMS Naval Architects has been contracted to provide design and engineering support for the conversion works.
