US Coast Guard, partners respond to crane barge fire near Egmont Key, Florida

The US Coast Guard and partner agencies responded to a vessel fire near Egmont Key, Florida, on Sunday, September 6.

Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders received a notification from a Good Samaritan vessel via VHF radio that a commercial crane barge was on fire near Egmont Key.

The coast guard and local fire and sheriff’s department personnel as well as salvage teams responded to the incident. The fire department crews safely extinguished the fire with no personnel injuries or pollution reported.

The coast guard deployed two response boats to establish a safety zone around the stricken vessel.
