Robert Allan Ltd design selected for new Bangladesh Navy firefighting boats

MARITIME SECURITY WEEK

Robert Allan Ltd has provided the design for two new firefighting boats slated for the Bangladesh Navy.

The boats will measure 18.9 by 5.3 metres with special hard chine semi-displacement hulls designed for river service and fitted with twin open style skegs for debris protection.

The all-aluminium hulls will be powered by two John Deere 6135SFM85 560kW main engines that will deliver a speed of 20 knots. Two 2,000 litre/minute fire pumps will be fitted, and each will be driven by an IVECO 55kW diesel engine.

Most of the accommodation will be on the main deck level including an officer’s cabin with attached WC, galley, mess, and seating for 12 firefighters in an air-conditioned deckhouse. There will also be overnight berths for six people.

Construction of the vessels is ongoing at Bangladesh’s Khulna Shipyard.
