Best Electric Cargo Vessel – Hydromover – Lita Ocean

A very interesting and innovative craft, Hydromover is an impressive electric powered aluminium catamaran built in Singapore.

It is a tribute to the capabilities and competence of Lita Ocean that it was awarded the complex building contract. Impressively, as well as its advanced technology, the unashamedly experimental craft has managed, thanks to the skills of its builders, to look elegant.

“The vessel is designed with swappable battery solutions and carry an impressive 25 tonnes of cargo,” Yeo Yingda, Managing Director of Lita Ocean, told Baird Maritime. “It can also reduce operational costs by up to 50 per cent compared to conventional vessels due to improved energy efficiency and lower maintenance costs.”

Hydromover is equipped with advanced decision-making capabilities including energy optimisation, waypoint calculation, collision avoidance, and berthing boundaries. This allows the vessel to operate with maximum efficiency and safety, minimising the risk of human error.

Yeo said that the year 2023 was a busy one for Lita Ocean with deliveries of various vessel types. Two deliveries stand out, for they featured non-conventional propulsion systems using alternative fuels and battery systems. In addition to delivering Hydromover, the company also handed over a 35-metre, dual-fuel LNG-diesel hybrid hydrographic vessel for the government of Singapore.

Other vessels delivered by the company over the past year were of various sizes and capabilities for operation in the Middle East.

“This demonstrated our ability to build boats suitable for the harsh operating environment of that particular region,” said Yeo.
