From Baird Maritime
Another personal history of World War Two from one of the rapidly shrinking group of participants. This is a very good one.
It is particularly good because it describes how war experience and opportunities assisted an enthusiastic and intelligent young man to beat the British class system.
The self-effacing young man did indeed commence the war as a signalman but he finished it in command of a number of small vessels. He also went from being an early school leaver to completing his career as a long-serving and successful school headmaster.
It is also the author's first book. A great achievement for an eighty year-old former businessman and pioneering English vigneron.
A delightful read.
