Wellington-based specialist support vessel provider, Seaworks, has recently acquired a 32-metre, 336GT tug and offshore support ship. They have also placed an order for a 31-metre, 344GT oil and gas industry support catamaran.

Named 'Searanger' and 'Seaworker' respectively, the acquisitions come as the firm enjoys a period of "steady growth", says Seaworks chief executive Tim Brown.

"Seaworker will provide a range of services to the oil and gas industry including line boat services, offshore support, remotely operated vehicle and dive support," he says.

"Seaworker has been designed to fulfil our ongoing demand for oil and gas workboat support. In line with changes in the industry she is larger than some of our current vessels and features full dynamic positioning capability and a high standard of living arrangements.

"Searanger is for support to the offshore oil and gas industry, towing, marine response, salvage and workboat duties.

"Searanger enhances Seaworks' capability to support offshore projects and provide towing and salvage services."

Purchased from Western Australia and now based in Wellington, the Searanger arrived in Wellington at the beginning of October. Being built in Vietnam, the Seaworker is due to be completed towards the end of 2016 and will be based in Nelson.
