Rotterdam, The Netherlands: Seacontractors presented 'Speed & Stablity', a new type of multicat.

According to the company, the vessel's movable centre hull provides up to 90 percent more economical sailing and allows the vessel to travel up to three times faster than similar vessels. Furthermore, the vessel is said to be the first catamaran in the world able to operate as a truly "multi purpose vessel".

"According to the desired use, any of these abovementinoed properties can be enhanced," said Seacontractors spokesman Jacco Wakker.

"During sailing, the centre hull can be lifted, thus transforming the 'Speed & Stability' into a catamaran with all its typical characteristics.

"Once at the working site, the buoyancy can be increased by inflating the special cushions, which are located between the two hulls, making it a fully stable workboat."

The 'Speed & Stability' is really a multi-purpose vessel. Provided with powerful cranes the vessel is fully self-supporting as a cable layer. Equipped with navigational devices and the DPP positioning system in combination with two bow propellers a precise location will be reached.

The 'Speed & Stability' is equipped with four 900kW Hamilton water jets which can achieve a top speed of 33 knots.

The vessel was designed and built by Dutch company, K & W Trans. Measuring 43 metres by 13 metres, the vessel can be used for a myriad of functions such as transporting equipment, fuel, personnel or drinking water.
