Scottish lifeboat charity East Sutherland Rescue Association (ESRA) will introduce a new eight-metre, high-speed inshore lifeboat into service this coming summer.

Built by Ribcraft RIBs, the boat will be powered by two Evinrude outboard engines that will deliver speeds of up to 40 knots. Equipment will include a Raymarine radar as well as radio and satellite communications.

The boat is being acquired for a total cost of £245,000 (US$340,198), which also covers fitting out and licensing. A considerable portion of the cost will be shouldered by private donors.

The new RIB will replace Glen Cassley, the ESRA's existing inshore lifeboat.

The boat will be capable of operating in all weather conditions along the Sutherland coast.
