Queen Máxima christens Dutch training and research yacht
The Netherlands' Queen Máxima christened the Sea Ranger Service’s new youth training, survey and research vessel, SRS Janet Taylor, in Rotterdam yesterday.
The ship was constructed in collaboration with 15 shipbuilding partners. With its dual-mast setup, the SRS Janet Taylor is designed for ease of handling, offering new Sea Rangers real-world experience in key maritime operations.
The vessel will serve as a training platform while monitoring shipwrecks, conducting hydrographic surveys, and carrying out ocean sampling, in addition to delivering offshore contract work for the Sea Ranger Service.
Built from steel, the 30-tonne vessel was designed to cover long distances under sail.
“This ship embodies everything the Sea Ranger Service stands for,” said Wietse van der Werf, Founder, CEO of the Sea Ranger Service. “It’s about equipping the next generation with the skills and experience to protect our oceans while upholding a legacy of maritime innovation and excellence.”
