The Peruvian Navy's oceanographic research vessel BAP Carrasco has embarked on a research mission to Antarctica.

The vessel's 167 crew and technicians, which also includes researchers from both Peru and Chile, will perform scientific research activities as part of the Antar XXVI expedition.

The expedition, which will last until March 2019, seeks to gather data essential to research on sources of both renewable and non-renewable energy, particularly their conservation and exploitation.
