By Brian C. Bienke
Fom Baird Maritime:
Although far too long, and crying out for tighter, better editing, this is a very important and readable book that has been written with considerable passion.
Brian Bienke is one of the true gentlemen of the Australian fishing industry. He is, importantly, one of the very few Australian fishermen to have stood up and been counted and to have fought hard for his industry.
While he lost the fight, he did so gloriously, and at the time, managed to find time to record and publish this invaluable
two-volume history of the first half century of Australia's east coast and northern prawn fishery.
Brian Bienke clearly records the in-fighting and lack of unity that allowed malevolent bureaucrats to practically destroy that important export fishery. It should be read carefully by fishermen and fisheries politicians everywhere. If what happened to the author has not happened to you, it probably will soon.
