Papua New Guinea's PNG Ports Corporation will soon welcome a new pilot boat into service.
Musangu II is the fourth of five pilot boats delivered to PNG Ports through the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific. The vessel is completing the final safety and registration checks before entering service.
The boat was built by Norman R. Wright and Sons of Brisbane, Australia. She is a sister of Siabo, which was delivered to the same operator in 2023.
Musangu II will replace an ageing pilot boat being operated by PNG Ports out of Madang Port. The operator said the new boat was specifically designed to provide safe, reliable and efficient pilotage services in PNG's rugged operating environment.
Once the final safety checks are completed, Musangu II will be transferred to Madang Port and begin service. Taubar II, the fifth and final pilot boat, is in the final stages of testing in Brisbane and is expected to arrive in Port Moresby by the end of he month.
