A new pilot boat ordered by the Port of Auckland in New Zealand recently completed undergoing sea trials.
Te Ihu belongs to a series of pilot boats built by Hart Marine of Australia.
The boat has an LOA of 17.54 metres, a beam of 5.25 metres, a depth of 2.15 metres, and a top speed of 35 knots courtesy of two Scania DI16 560kW inboard engines that drive Hamilton HTX42 waterjets.
Utilising composite material and a hull design developed by French naval architecture firm Pantocarene, the boat features a lightweight yet corrosion-resistant structure that boasts durability even under harsh marine conditions.
A wave-piercing, beak bow design facilitates smooth navigation in turbulent waters, significantly reducing vertical acceleration and ensuring stability for pilots.
The vessel also boasts self-righting ability, guaranteeing autonomous recovery from a capsized position.
The boat also has continuous railing, thus providing a safety barrier for crew and pilots.
Low-noise technology meanwhile further enhances the vessel's operational environment.
