Swedish operator Gotland has unveiled the first design images of a new Ro-Pax ferry that will be fitted with a low-emission hydrogen propulsion system.

Named Gotland Horizon, the vessel will have a speed of 28 knots and capacity for 1,900 passengers and up to 700 vehicles. The propulsion system will include both steam turbines and hydrogen-powered gas turbines.

Gotland said the vessel will be ordered in 2025 with delivery scheduled within five years.

The partners on the project include Gotland subsidiary Gotland Tech Development and Uppsala University.
