A Ro-Pax operated by Brittany Ferries was diverted to the port of Brest after a fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room at 04:00 local time on Monday, April 29.

The blaze on Pont Aven ignited while the vessel was in the Bay of Biscay 142 kilometres south of Brittany.

The crew succeeded in extinguishing the blaze less than an hour after it erupted. No critical systems were damaged, and the vessel was still able to sail under its own power following the incident.

No injuries have been reported among the 908 people on board.

Pont Aven had departed Plymouth and was sailing to Santander when the fire erupted.
