Record quarter buoys Finnlines again

The third quarter of 2017 was the best quarter in Finnlines’ history, further enhancing the Baltic Sea ferry operator’s excellent year.

President and CEO Emanuele Grimaldi said the EUR67.9 million (US$79.9 million) profit from January to September increased 12 per cent from a year earlier.

The third-quarter result of EUR32.5 million, he said, reflected Finland’s economic recovery with export and import volumes increasing 10 per cent.

Mr Grimaldi said Finnlines’ fleet investment has included the completion of its EUR100 million environmental technology investment program to reduce sulphur emissions by 90 per cent, and starting a 70 million euro energy efficiency program to lengthen four Breeze series Ro-Ro vessels. The 30 per cent capacity increase per vessel will further reduce the energy consumption per transported unit. There are options for two more vessels.

Finnlines has also invested in digitalisation, developing mobile services in port operations, and implementing two major enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems – one in the port and the other for vessel efficiency monitoring and measurement.
