Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) and subsidiary MOL Ferry have placed orders for two LNG-fueled Ro-Pax ferries in a series to be built by local shipyard Naikai Zosen Corporation.

The ferries are slated for delivery in 2025. These will replace two older vessels that MOL Ferry currently operates on the Oarai-Tomakomai route.

Each new ferry will have an LOA of 199.4 metres and capacity for 157 passengers and 205 vehicles. The low-speed engine on each vessel will use LNG as its main fuel, though it will also be designed to run on conventional fuel oil.
