Finnlines has confirmed that the keel of its newest hybrid Ro-Pax ferry was laid during a ceremony held earlier this month.

The future Finnsirius is the first in a planned series of two ferries that will operate between Finland and Sweden and also serve the Aland Islands beginning in 2023.

The ferry will have Ice Class 1A Super notation, an LOA of 235 metres, and capacity for 1,100 passengers, 200 cars, and about 300 lorries. Amenities will include restaurants, cafes, lounges, a spa, and a gym.

The vessel will also be fitted with a shore power connection, a waste heat recovery system, and an auto mooring system.

Finnsirius is being built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard Weihai.
