Interlake acquires ferry, ATB from Great Lakes operators

Badger

Interlake Holding Company has completed its acquisition of two vessels formerly owned by Michigan-based companies operating on the Great Lakes.

The purchased vessels are the 1952-built vehicle and passenger ferry Badger (pictured), formerly owned by Lake Michigan Car Ferry Company, and the articulated tug barge (ATB) unit UndauntedPere Marquette 41, formerly owned by Pere Marquette Shipping Company.

The vessels will be operated by the newly formed company Interlake Maritime Services, which will also manage Interlake’s freight subsidiary The Interlake Steamship Company.

The ferry has capacity for 620 passengers and up to 180 vehicles while the ATB is capable of carrying diverse cargoes that traditional self-unloaders cannot such as large armour stone for break walls, pig iron, scrap, and other miscellaneous materials.
