India’s M2M Ferries has begun operations between Mumbai and the Mandwa Jetty near the town of Alibaug.

The service was formally launched on Sunday, March 15. M2M’s first vessel to serve the route has a speed of 14 knots and capacity for 500 passengers and 145 vehicles.

Local maritime officials claim the vessel, which was built at an unnamed shipyard in Greece, could operate even during periods of monsoon rains.
