The second of two 118-metre trimaran Ro-Pax ferries constructed for Fred Olsen Express of the Canary Islands has completed a rigorous program of sea trials in Cebu, Austal Philippines said in a press release on Thursday, August 19.

After launching in April, Banaderos Express successfully completed the trials off the coast of Balamban, Cebu, prior to the planned delivery of the vessel in September 2021.

Austal said the ferry easily achieved its contract speed of 37.5 knots during multiple trials.

Like sister ship Bajamas Express, which was delivered in 2020 following construction at Austal Australia’s facilities, Banaderos Express has capacity for 1,100 passengers and 276 cars. Onboard facilities include multiple bars, kiosks, a retail shop, and a children’s play area.

Power is provided by four MTU 9,100kW engines.
