DFDS is set to switch to a new type of zero-emission fuel to replace fossil fuels as the primary energy source for its fleet of vessels under a long-term plan.

The move is part of the Danish shipping line’s initiative to become climate neutral by 2050. Jakob Steffensen, DFDS’ head of innovation and partnerships, added that the company is considering ammonia, hydrogen, and methanol as alternative fuels for its fleet.

The final decision on which fuel will be used is expected in the 2026-2027 timeframe.
