Corvus Energy installs batteries on Grimaldi Ro-Pax retrofits

Corvus Energy has completed the installation of a 5.5MWh battery energy storage system (ESS) for each of the two Grimaldi Group 225- by 30-metre Ro-Paxes Cruise Barcelona (pictured) and Cruise Roma.

The “mega batteries” will allow the Grimaldi vessels to turn off their diesel engines and operate solely on battery power and with zero emissions for up to four hours during port stays.

The two projects started with technical teams from Grimaldi and Corvus Energy sailing aboard Cruise Barcelona to evaluate the optimal electrical and mechanical integration requirements of a viable ESS for each of the two vessels.

Corvus Energy claims the ESS installed on the Grimaldi vessels are the largest ever to be retrofitted on any cruise ferry.
