Chinese shipbuilder CSSC Offshore and Marine Engineering Company (COMEC) has begun construction on a new Ro-Pax ferry slated for state-owned operator Xiamen Mintai Ferry.

Design work on the vessel was completed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) in compliance to China Classification Society rules.

Upon completion, the ferry will have an LOA of 180 metres, a beam of 25.8 metres, capacity for 300 passengers, and a service speed of 20 knots. It will be operated on the Taiwan Strait between Taiwan and China’s Fujian province.
