Construction begins on new ferry for Kvarken Link

Finland’s Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) has cut the first steel for a new Ro-Pax ferry ordered by Finnish-Swedish consortium Kvarken Link.

The vessel is set to operate between the Finnish city of Vaasa and the Swedish city of Umeå and will employ a hybrid power generation system as well as an electric propulsion system.

It will accommodate approximately 800 passengers and will have a freight capacity of 1,500 lane metres for lorries.

The outfitting design of the vessel will be carried out simultaneously with the construction. Delivery is scheduled for the spring of 2021.
