CMAL awards contract for new hydrogen-fueled ferry for Orkney Islands

Caledonian Maritime Assets (CMAL) has awarded AqualisBraemar LOC Group (ABL) a contract for the design of a new ferry that will be powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

The ferry will be a double-ended vessel with capacity for 120 passengers and 16 cars or two trucks.

The vessel will be operated on the route between Kirkwall and Shapinsay in Scotland’s Orkney Islands.
