Baleària ferry returns to service following dual fuel retrofit

Sicilia, a Ro-Pax ferry operated by Spain’s Baleària, has returned to service after it had its existing propulsion system replaced with dual fuel engines that could be powered by either diesel or LNG.

The vessel has also been fitted with a 425-cubic-metre LNG storage tank. Baleària claims a range of 1,770 kilometres in between refuelings could be achieved on LNG alone.

The conversion work on Sicilia was carried out at West Sea Shipyard in Portugal from February to the middle of August.
