Hurtigruten has partnered with Norwegian startup Brim Explorer to introduce the first vessel of a new series of battery-powered passenger catamarans custom-built for polar water exploration.
The 24-metre vessel, which is set to debut in 2020, will operate under the Hurtigruten Svalbard brand and sail on excursions out of Longyearbyen on the Arctic island of Svalbard.
The emission-free vessel can be charged at virtually any port and operate on batteries for 10 hours with a cruising speed of 10 knots.
