Uber Boat to get two additional catamarans for Thames sailings

UK operator Uber Boat by Thames Clippers has placed an order for two additional catamaran ferries to be built by The Wight Shipyard Company of Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

The vessels will be operated on Uber Boat’s Thames commuter and sightseeing lines.

As with their earlier sisters, a hybrid design will allow the new ferries to operate solely on battery power to transport both commuters and sightseers along the Thames throughout the capital’s central zone between the Tower Bridge and Battersea Power Station piers and recharge while using bio-fuel power outside of Central London.

The technology is not reliant on shore-based charging. Instead, the new boats will use excess power from their bio-fuel engines to recharge their batteries for the Central London stretch.
