Taiwan’s Hai You Shipping selects Dutch-designed catamaran ferry

Taiwanese operator Hai You Shipping has placed an order for a new fast catamaran ferry to be built by Glow Marine of Singapore.

Designed by Dutch naval architects CoCo Yachts, the 42- by 10-metre vessel will have capacity for 400 passengers and will feature a hull that is specially designed for high-speed sailing in rough weather while retaining comfort and efficiency.

The ferry will have four MTU 12V2000M86 main engines that each drive one Hamilton HTX-52 waterjet through a ZF 3050 gearbox. The propulsion arrangement will deliver a service speed of 35 knots and a range of approximately 350 nautical miles.

CoCo Yachts said the aluminium construction is designed for sailing in wave heights of up to four metres.
