Russian ferry operator takes delivery of hydrofoil pair

Russian ferry company Vodolent recently took delivery of two hydrofoil-equipped passenger vessels in a series from Alexeev’s Hydrofoil Design Bureau.

The 21.3- by 5.2-metre ferries are the second and third of five units ordered by Vodolent’s parent company Volgotrans. Each vessel has capacity for 45 passengers, a crew of two, and a speed of 35 knots.

The fourth and fifth vessels in the series are expected to be delivered during the first half of 2020.

The hydrofoil vessels will be used to provide scheduled high-speed ferry services in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

Construction of the ferries is being carried out with support from Mashpromlizing.
