Oregon-based non-profit organisation Friends of Frog Ferry (FFF) has received additional grant funding for a project to determine the feasibility of launching a new passenger ferry service in the Portland/Vancouver metro area.

The donated funds include US$200,000 from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and US$40,000 from the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT). The money will be used to conduct an operational feasibility study and finance plan that will be finalised this summer.

The study will include an assessment of current infrastructure, any necessary expansion measures, associated costs, and recommendations on financing.

FFF said that the proposed ferry service would help ease traffic congestion on local roads as well as provide an emergency response transport option in the event of a natural disaster.

FFF added that it anticipates another significant grant in the coming weeks.
