New fast ferry begins sailing with Robben Island Museum

South Africa’s Robben Island Museum has begun full operational sailing of Krotoa, the first of two fast ferries in a series ordered from Singapore’s Penguin Shipyard.

Designed by Incat Crowther, the BV-classed catamaran has seating for up to 285 passengers and is powered by twin Caterpillar C32 1,081kW main engines that deliver a full load speed of 28.5 knots.

Delivery of the second vessel in the series is scheduled for early in the fourth quarter of 2019.
