Mercy Ships unveils new hospital ship

International humanitarian NGO Mercy Ships recently unveiled its newest hospital ship, Global Mercy.

The 174-metre, 37,000-tonne vessel is equipped with six operating rooms, a 682-seat auditorium, a gymnasium, a pool, a cafe, and a library. There is space for up to 950 crew and guests including over 600 medical professionals and other essential staff.

Global Mercy is scheduled to begin service in Africa in 2021. It will operate there alongside Africa Mercy, another Mercy Ships vessel.

Construction of the vessel is still ongoing at the Tianjin facilities of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation under a contracted awarded by Mercy Ships to Sweden’s Stena RoRo.
