Future Philippine state-run shipyard to focus on ferry newbuildings

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has confirmed that the construction of the country’s newest government-owned shipbuilding facility will commence in 2020.

PPA general manager Jay Daniel Santiago said the shipyard will concentrate on building commercial passenger vessels such as fast ferries and Ro-Paxes but will also have provisions for building leisure craft.

The government is set to invest approximately PHP 300 million (US$5.73 million) in the construction of the shipyard.

Mr Santiago added that a location has already been selected for the 10-hectare facility but declined to provide additional details.
